The Butterfly Community is looking forward to 2018 as there are many more opportunities coming our way. Just to recap this year, so far we have accomplished:
3 exhibitions (2 Black Love Matters!™, 1 Little Things Exhibition)
4 Artist Talks and Community Panels
The 2nd Annual Spring Art Fair
2 Community Workshops
Numerous events, parties and other social gatherings promoting network.
We are planning to expand our programming, become a non-profit organization and looking forward to offering more opportunities to the youth through our network! That being said, there is something you can do!
Starting December 4th 2018 we will have a membership offer for artists and entrepreneurs. The membership will cover:
Entry into exhibition calls and vending opportunities
Discounts on workshops and classes
Discounts (and sometimes free entry) for events
Quarterly emails updating you on upcoming exhibition calls and events in Chicago as well as in other cities we have worked in (i.e. New Orleans, LA, Los Angeles, CA and New York, NY)
All of this for a membership fee of $40 for the year! That $40 covers up to 2 exhibitions (with no more than 3 pieces) and/or 2 vendors events (you can choose to do 1 exhibition and 1 vendors event). You can enter as many exhibitions and/or events presented by the Butterfly Community as you’d like but you will be accepted into two. It also helps support our summer program returning in the summer of 2018. This fee also helps pay for administrative work for the organization including creating flyers, events and posts, emailing artists updates about exhibition calls and writing proposals for exhibitions in established institutions!
Our Mission We, like the butterfly, want to see change. Through educating the youth and their families we can help create healthy environments in the places we are not i.e. their homes. By exhibiting arts with imagery that reflects the community, we mirror ourselves promoting healthy self-images. When we put on events, they engage our participants to promote healing, teamwork and growth.
Vision We see the Southside of Chicago as a safe place for children and teens to grow up and want to give back to their community through service, entrepreneurship and promoting culture. Our small business owners care about the residents in the neighborhood and are always looking for ways to give back to the community. As a network, we build our community and team up with other neighborhoods in Chicago to create a safe city to live in.
Please join us in 2018 as we work to build community with every opportunity we get!
